A few years back, [livejournal.com profile] michaelduff hit on a neat idea for birthday presents: instead of buying something that would then cost a lot in postage, just come up with a media compilation CD. CDs are cheap to make, cheap to mail, and if you're really poor, you can store the tracks somewhere as mp3s and other people can download them and make their own.

I thought this was a neat idea, made one, and then liked it so much that I, uh, kinda didn't send it off to him. (I suck.) Then, a year or so later, I mentioned to Derek the idea of doing an annual CD, and that I was planning to do one for 2003 ... and then I didn't ever finish it. (I suck.)

So I am trying something new. Since the 2002 CD was made fairly close to my birthday, I'm creating a 2004 CD on my birthday. And because the RIAA can suck it, I am sharing it all with you guys. '80s cheese, weird orchestral techno, whiner-punk, gothrock, industrial -- the only criteria were that it had to be relevant and it had to be something I'd listened to a lot in the last year. In their own little way, these 16 tracks tell the story of the last 365 days, or an abridged and highly subjective version thereof; I suppose if I felt really ambitious, I would do 27 tracks or something like that, but that would be awkward. So, here is a bit of Meredith that you can put in your car or your iPod or wherever you like. Enjoy.
