Why I am a scientist: my parents.

Excerpt from an email from my mom this morning:

I think I’m glad you’re on another continent if some people want you arrested! Have they even read what you’re trying to do? If people didn’t try new ideas, we would still be living in the trees! We’re proud of you and love you more than you can imagine.

Bear in mind also that my mother is an English teacher whose hobbies are tennis, refinishing stained glass windows, and medieval history. I'm just lucky to have had parents who have always supported scientific inquiry in its many shapes and sizes.

It would be kinda cool to live in a tree though.
