You've misunderstood my diagrams, there's no time component and no fourier transforms involved (I did not mention fourier at all) - they are simple plots of amplitude against radio frequency. On that kind of plot, it's exactly what AM does.

The AM spectra you've linked on wikipedia is to do with the mathematics of extracting the audio information from an AM signal (and incidently is quite useful in indicating that there is also a way to do something called single side band on AM, which is the same concept applied at a different level - thanks for re-illustrating my point, by roundabout means...).

I could spend a while providing images and links to support the diagrams that I dredged up from my Ham exam, but since my only aim was to provide a brief visual guide to "what SSB is" to non-technical readers of marardydd's journal, and I'm morally opposed to conducting a flame war in someone elses journal, I'm not going to.
