you're way too out of this to really understand what's going on Meredith. You need to go actually meet the people on both sides of this before you go start choosing sides. The people you're supporting are the ones who stand to make a lot of money. The people who you are saying are 'full of crack' are footing their own bill, hiring whomever they can afford as lawyers, and fighting their own way for their rights, and they have every right to protect their work however they please. Many of them have to work so hard just to keep a place for themselves in this world; having someone start sticking loopholes in ways to use their work and allowing big corporations to 'low-ball' or push down the value of collective genres, is very difficult and time-consuming for the dedicated artists to deal with. I agree with the original post here, that this is limiting true creativity and stands only to help out major corporations.
