A 3'x4' whiteboard fell on my neck about half an hour ago.
I have ice on it, I can walk without running into things, and my vision isn't blurry, but man, have I got a headache. Neck not so happy either. I am not taking the bus home tonight.
Wow, must be the week for that stuff. Hope it heals up quickly; keep an eye on yourself for a bit (or have someone else do it) to make sure you're really okay.
Yeah, after noticing that I was having unusually blurry peripheral vision and making more typos than usual, I went to the ER, where they noticed that I was also having double vision in the lower half of my vision, so they ordered a CT scan and that came up fine. I'm home now, with orders to come back if there is any further neurological weirdness, and a lot of muscle relaxants for the inevitable neck stiffness.
Yup. I will be taking it easy tomorrow, and my housemate has been instructed to keep an eye out for any unusualness, but the CT scan came up normal so it looks like everything will be ok. Thanks.
Yeah, that's what I said when I woke up after two hours of sleep [grr, inconsiderate roommates], and heard about this. "Don't take any pain meds, and if your head is hurting in an hour or two, go to the hospital." "Um, I already took two advil." "Okay, then go to the hospital." "I donwanna!" "Grr. Well, have someone watch you to make sure you're okay." "Can I sleep?" "You really shouldn't." "I don't want to go to the hospital. I'm fine." "Honey, you keep mentioning how out of it you are."
I then passed out, hoping she was in good hands, which it appears she was. (Thanks, ephermata and foxgrrl.)
I'm glad it turned out to be nothing, and in the end the CT scan was probably worse for her health than the whiteboard, but better safe than sorry, as the cliche goes.
I'm reminded of when someone managed to drop a dictionary on my head while I was laying at the base of a bookshelf reading (lesson learned: Do not lay at the base of the bookshelf, no matter how much easier that makes getting the books). This sounds MUCH worse. Take it easy and hope you're alright.
I thought it had to be an embellishment to truly be an urban legend, which I think means this is a damn good start.
"Promising hot chick polymath's life cut short by angry whiteboard". You can say that this happened to the wife of a friend of your ex-girlfriend, but that you heard it from the widower himself. Or maybe even that you spoke to the poor girl herself only hours before she went to sleep, never to wake up.
(God, I hope the CT scan was right; I'm going to have to find a bridge to jump off of if something like that does happen, for making jokes this morbid about my wife's life.)
They said to be worried if I was unusually drowsy or anything like that today, but I woke right up when my phone rang, so I think everything will be all right on the neurological side. (Fewer typos this morning, too.) My neck's stiff and sore, but that's what the meds are for.
This totally needs to be a meme: "what is the most unusual thing that's ever collided with your head?" For me it's either the whiteboard (neck first, then head), or a soccer goalpost at 15mph. (I was the one traveling, not the goalpost. Though I suppose it depends on your frame of reference!)
When I hit a goalpost it was only "as fast as I can run" which may have been in the range of 15mph after doing a little research into human footspeeds (which is an odd looking plural to say the least, but I'm pretty sure I don't mean feetspeed) I also managed to jump my head into a 2" wooden beam in college, which was quickly followed by hitting the tile floor. I'm betting that's not very unusual, though. For a best answer to this question I'd have to ponder it for a pretty long time.
Are you still coming to the thing tonight? Also, do you need a ride or anything like that? Where 10 is 2, my number is (1010001010 ) 1110001010 - 0 110011010
