Did you know that public schools hold art auctions and solicit donations through Amazon.com?

I always thought that was a private school thing. I guess, looking back, that there were fundraisers when I was in public school; one club or another was always selling candy bars to fund some kind of project or excursion, and I remember more than one assembly where all the students were handed catalogues of candles, baked goods, chocolates, or some other gift-baskety thing to hawk to their relatives and neighbours, and encouraged with promises of FABULOUS PRIZES (many of them lottery-like) for the kids who sold the most stuff. Usually the speaker had a mustache and a comb-over. I suppose that says more about the public schools I attended, actually. I don't think I ever learned what those funds went to.

Did you sell anything for your school? If so, what did you sell, and what do you remember about the purpose?
