SPOOOOON! ...or not.

I opened my email this morning and discovered, much to my delight, an invitation into the final group of beta-testers for City of Heroes! (Cue much cheering and shouting. For those of you who know just how few computer games I actually play, the significance of this excitement should be readily apparent.) Unfortunately, it turns out that the minimum graphics card they support is a Radeon 8500-series, and I am still packing a pitiful 7000-series. Mope.
So, I turn to you, my friends list. I can pick up a 9200-series at the Local Hardware Shop for $62, or a 9200-series for $160 or thereabouts. Bearing in mind that I really don't do much in the way of gaming (as in, I haven't purchased a computer game in at least seven years, and the only one I've pirated[1] in all that time was Enter the Matrix, which I never ended up actually playing), is CoH worth it?
[1] I pirate other stuff, like MP3s.

Rumor has it...

Date: 2004-04-20 07:54 am (UTC)I upgraded to a ATI 9600 XT right before I got into beta, and it's been great. 20-30 fps with full detail turned on, 1280x1024/32. Just be sure to use Driver Cleaner 3 when installing new drivers.
