Live from San Francisco, now with extra "d'oh"

Well, I was writing a great whacking huge post about my trip here and my very nice dinner with pjammer, but then Firefox crashed and took the system down with it in much the same way that IDLE did the other night, except this time it didn't corrupt some part of the hard drive in a way that prevented the machine from rebooting. Thank goodness for small mercies, I guess.

Anyway, I'm here, well fed, and happily settled in to my hotel, with Clever Plans for things to do tomorrow morning before the conference actually starts. I'll try to reconstruct the events of the evening at some point, and perhaps later there will be cool time-lapse photography from the revolving restaurant where pjammer and I ate tonight.

One thing worth mentioning -- on the way back from dinner, PJ and I walked past a fellow wearing jeans and an O'Really "Writing Word Macro Viruses" T-shirt, along with a black fedora. "I bet that guy's going to CodeCon," I opined a few steps past him, and the guy turned around and looked back at us, smiling, I think. I guess tomorrow I'll see if I was right. :)

I'm in the Courtyard Marriott about two blocks away from the venue. It's not quite the W, but it is pretty nice, and I don't need much beyond a comfortable bed and free broadband. :)
