I'm with you on this one. Some people need to remind themselves not to generalize until they have two or three use-cases; I need to remind myself not to generalize from zero--especially when there are type/language issues at work.

Example of a fun waste of a month or so from a while ago: Parsely. A brilliant solution to a problem that bears only a passing resemblance to the problems of actual people.

Oh, that's already in progress -- I'm porting some code from a previous version of it to the new version, by way of wrapping my head around it. It's been very instructive, but dammit, I miss my compile-time type introspection.
