I don't have anything interesting to post today, so you get yet another meme that amused me. Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] michiexile.

Put your music player on shuffle, and write down the first line of the first twenty songs. Post the poem that results. The first line of the twenty-first song is the title.

I'm surprised at how well this one worked, though the origin of the title cracks me up (ten journalpoints to the first person to guess it!), and the last line is just fucking bizarre. Also, I swear to God that perfect juxtaposition of Leonard Cohen and Johnny Cash was a complete accident.

"When I look around me"

Breathing in an air, permeated, soaked in darkness
Well, we've always had a bumpy ride and this is where it ends
Anywhere old prince nez goes
I don't want to change your mind

Well that was easy, way too, everything's easy now
You my weakness, sweetly wreck me
Have you seen my love?
You were working as a waitress in a cocktail bar

Often on the weekend I'll jump in my car
Empty spaces, what are we living for?
The birds they sing at the break of day
Hear that lonesome whipporwhill.

Many men have loved the bells
Frosty the supervisor lives by himself
She eyes me like a Pisces when I am weak
All the fear has left me now

You can't hear me
When they kick at your front door
The rains move in eastward in waves of succession
She came from Greece, she had a thirst for knowledge.

Frosty the supervisor haahhahhahah

The TMBG appearances somehow crack me up...
I don't want to change your mind
[...] I don't think you're blind!

Also, every poem should end in Shatner...
She came from Greece, she had a thirst for knowledge.

I was surprised at iTunes' fondness for certain artists. I don't have all that much TMBG, but got two tracks anyway. The "poem" also doesn't reflect three or four VNV Nation instrumentals that turned up.

Yours reads much better than mine. (And, for the record, I don't think I have any more Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra than you have TMBG, but somehow tracks 1 and 21 just worked out that way).

"Some velvet morning when I'm straight"

We got married in a fever,
Ba, baba ba ba, baba ba ba, baba ba ba.

[Instrumental break: polka]

He was sitting in the lounge of the Empire Hotel.

[Instrumental breal: doina]

Hai già vinta la causa!
Now bold Sir Rylas a-hunting went;
Hang your collar up inside.
Perpetrating counterculture, she is walking through the park,
Interesting and sophisticated.

[Instrumental break: symphony]

I walked down by the river where we used to go—
Julie was a lonely girl—
I met my love near Woolwich Pier.

[Instrumental break: hop]

From the bowery to the brimstone,
With your too-ri-a, fol the diddle ah,
From where I live,
Warm me from the wind and take my hand;
I've been loving you a long time.

Hah, I should have done the instrumental breaks -- though most of them would have been symphonic techno, plus an excerpt from the Glagolitic Mass. I skipped over those.

My guess for the title

"When I look around me" - I can't believe what I see
It seems as though this country has lost its will to live
The economy is lousy
We barely have an army
But we can still stand proudly 'cause Canada's really big!

My Canadian boyfriend, who'd just played that for me not half an hour ago, is highly amused.

Oh, I should have recognized that! Well spotted.

Yours is better than mine, but I'm very fond of my title. :)
