For want of a needle I cannot finish making my pimped-out EeePC carrier (padded sling bag, using webbing from a messenger bag that was coming apart), and thus must hand-copy a list of parts to take with me down to my Local Electronics Shop, where I must stop on the way to my doctor's appointment later today. Or just, you know, use a backpack, but it seems awfully silly to devote an entire backpack to such a tiny piece of equipment. My sling bag will be efficient and modular. If I want to, I can clip other things to it. Neoprene will protect the laptop itself from liquids and impact damage. The weight will ride nicely in the small of my back or at my hip. Only a needle, between me and this!

But no, I will be sensible and take a backpack, because it will be faster, and that way I can make time to go to the sewing store. (Neoprene is kind of a beast.)

Oh, and I should find a good oldskool punk patch to sew to the back of the case...

Off topic, but lol-worthy.

So I got to talk to my mom about the MMR shot thing. When confronted with information that the MMR shot/autism thing is demonstrably shit, she denied it was so and went on to talk about some doctor or another who's "in the know(tm)" who watched as his kid started to slide in to autism after the shot and the only thing that saved his kid was a change in his kid's diet.

What. The. Fuck.

So, first you ask about knitted chording gear, then it's a neoprene bag for a small computer. Have you decided to make a wearable computer?

Oh, maybe. Right now my Eee is my primary computer, and although my fingers are sized right for the keyboard, my hands are too big. (I have long skinny fingers and broad hands.) So the chording device is a more compact attempt at preventing RSI, and the neoprene bag actually came free with the computer (there was a special on, it's a Targus bag I think), but the only carrying point is a pair of dorky-looking handles that make the whole thing look like a lunchbox or a tiny attache case. The sling bag is intended to be more convenient.

But yeah, if I could find or build a decent HUD I'd totally figure out a ventilation system for my trenchcoat and mount the Eee in it, or switch to wearing cargo pants that can fit the Eee in a leg pocket. (I don't actually have any like that yet, but have been meaning to.)
