When talking to certain people, "I'm buried in LaTeX" is the wrong way to tell them that you're busy working on a paper.

And what is this paper on?

Oh, just some network security stuff. If it gets accepted I'll be cheering up a storm about it, rest assured. :)

Either way, it sounds so much more exciting than many of my college projects :P

I'm always interested to hear what people have to say about network security. Is this paper something you can share with the rest of us when it's done?

And I'm just the sort of nerd who enjoys reading people's academic papers for fun. I second this- can you share, Maradydd?

I need to get my coauthors' okay first -- the thing with conferences is that they want to see papers that haven't been released elsewhere. Worst case, we'll know in October whether it gets accepted or not, and we'll probably put a preprint draft online at that point.

I remember telling my parents I wanted The LaTeX Companion for Christmas one year. ("No, really, it's not a sex toy!")

That's sort of the inverse of what [livejournal.com profile] enochsmiles wanted to subject me to one Christmas. ("Oh, what a nice ... paperweight!")

It's made of brass, it's fairly heavy, and it has a beautifully wrought flange opposite the business end. More than that is not for a public post, there are children who read this.

I am reminded of the time my therapist talked about CBT for about five minutes before I realized that she was talking about cognitive-behavioral therapy.

There are some times when I have been googling for a particularly subtle thing to do in LaTeX - often to do with page lengths, and rubber lengths.

And realized after sending the query off that the results will most certainly be completely unrelated to what I wanted.

I know what you mean. One time, back in college, I was trying to figure out time/date stuff to put at the top of the document, so I Googled for "latex date". To my amazement, I got relevant results. Then I searched for "latex time" and the fun began.

Yeah, what is up with that? Clearly I need to befriend more perverts!

I actually prefer leather as far as wearables go, but liquid latex is comedy in a jar -- it's like kink fingerpaint. ;)

Now that you mention it, back in my fourth year of CompSci I had a friend with a pronounced \LaTeX{} fetish\ldots{}

And come to think of it, it's fun how eerily similar conversations between interaction designers and, er, producers of certain speciality leather goods can get at times. It's all geek bonding, no?

You could still be buried in latex and writing a paper on that. It'd just be a real different sort of paper.
