Well, I'm dropping linear programming. I hate to do it, but the course has taken a rapid turn for the multivariate calculus, and I was never all that good at calculus to begin with, nor have I ever had differential equations. Someday I'll have to take a look at the math section of MIT's Open CourseWare and catch up on all the continuous-math stuff I never learned, but even with the whole invincibility thing I think not trying to learn three semesters of math in the next eight weeks is the better part of valour.

I also seem to have quadruple-booked myself tomorrow, as there are two things for which I am supposed to be at work (admittedly, one of these is talking to my boss about making bioluminescent yogurt, so really not the Most Pressing Thing Evar), class at 9:30, a student I'm supposed to meet at 10:45, a brief meeting with one of the profs I'm TAing for at that same time, a different prof who wants to talk with me about the quick-and-dirty algorithm I wrote up for blind set-difference sometime tomorrow morning, a meeting with my adviser at which I am supposed to demonstrate the code I wrote up this summer (which still isn't feature-complete) and talk about a couple of papers (which I haven't yet read) at 1:30, an appointment to get my hair cut and coloured at 2 (fortunately, only five minutes' walking distance from my office, and they're usually running late anyway), class again at 3:55, and then I'm hosting a pumpkin-carving party at 6pm. Ack thud flump and I still need to tidy and vacuum the living room.

At least I'll be well and truly set to get lots of sleep on the airplane on Friday. I'm off to Toronto for Halloween, where I plan to party like a rockstar minus the hookers and blow, put in an appearance at this, and wander around dressed as the Shadow while making suitable mua-ha-ha-ha noises.

Right, then, tea and work.

Wah. Linky no worky. Oh well.

ocw.mit.edu has full video lectures online for differential equations. That's next on my list if I can remember enough calculus to muddle through. Anyway, just to save you some time:

http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/Mathematics/18-03Spring2004/CourseHome/index.htm (http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/Mathematics/18-03Spring2004/CourseHome/index.htm)

The link to the video lectures is on the bottom of the left pane.

Right now, I'm still reviewing Linear Algebra (the only other math course with full video lectures) and marveling at how dense MIT undergrads seem to be. ("C'mon! Just answer the man's question! He's lead you by the nose to exactly what he wants you to tell him. It's FREAKIN' OBVIOUS. Answer him, already, so he'll move on to the next step!")

Really, I think I'd be better off if I can figure out how to get RealPlayer to playback at Chipmunk Speed(TM). You know...faster than normal, but just slow enough to still be intelligible? *shrug*

Still, it's free, and pretty good. Don't look a gift-horse in the mouth, and all that, I guess.

D'oh: 'twas .com, not .org. Fixed.

I'm glad to hear that OCW has DiffEq material -- thanks for the links! I've also enlisted the help of my Minion of Continuous Math; if I'm still in IC in the spring, he'll teach me. Glad to hear about the linear algebra, as well; my matrix algebra is there but weak, and was also a point of difficulty in the linear programming class.

Pishhh, then why bother!

;)

I was just realizing (again) awhile ago that all the math I taught myself for college a few years ago (basically, all the math I know beyond the grade-school level) has pretty much evaporated.
I need to refresh the stuff, good to know about "MIT's Open CourseWare"...
